Subproject BiologyLMU
Subject-specific basic IT training for student teachers of biology

Within the scope of the tendering for the “Digitaler Campus Bayern” initiative, the Institute for Biology Education at the University of Munich (LMU) in cooperation with the Chair of Education and Educational Psycholgy are currently developing a range of courses for teacher students of biology for IT-based specialized teaching.

The range of courses subdivides into several units:
• Introduction to basic IT skills and media-didactic basic knowledge for student teachers of biology (Which skills regarding information technology and media-didactics are essential for biology lessons at school?)
• Development of IT-based course scenarios and creation of multimedia course material (e.g. learning videos, audio and visual material, single exercises in Moodle about, for example, Wiki or exercises with learning apps)
• Implementation of the course scenarios in Moodle (media-didactically reflected and evidence-based teaching with Moodle according to the principle of didactic design in conjunction with subject-didactic approaches)

This subject-specific training in IT basics aims to sustainably and significantly enhance the media education within the framework of the teacher training. The main goal is the attainment of competences in media didactic and media technology in order to enable an IT-supported and evidence-based specialized teaching for prospective biology teachers.
