involved persons:

LMU: Prof. Dr. Birgit J. Neuhaus, Dr. Lena von Kotzebue

TUM: Prof. Dr. Eva-Maria Lankes, Heidi Haslbeck, Dr. Eva S. Fritzsche

The international educational program Experimento which is funded by the Siemens Stiftung is intended to provide science education from preschool to primary and secondary school and to stimulate interest in science subjects. On the basis of multiple experiments for age groups 4-7 years (Experimento | 4+), 8-12 years (Experimento | 8+) and 10-18 years (Experimento | 10+) students can independently explore and reflect scientific and technological topics in the areas of energy, health, and environment on the principle of discovery learning. By this way continuous experiences with these scientific issues throughout the educational chain are possible.
In addition the teachers will get very practical trainings to obtain the necessary knowledge to be able to integrate Experimento in their lessons by using the materials and instructions for experimentation.
Experimento is being implemented with a regional focus on Africa, Latin America, and Europe/Germany. In order to meet the individual requirements for teaching and learning in each country, the project is realized in close cooperation with local educational partners.

For the scientific support, the evaluation and further development of the project five sub-studies have been planned. A content analysis of the material should in a first step show what the professionals benefit from as well as what students can learn in dealing with the material. Apart from a log analysis for the use of the Experimento boxes, knowledge and attitudes of the professionals will be analyzed using tests and their teaching skills using video observations. Tests for the analysis of students' learning outcomes and attitudes towards science complete the evaluation of the project.
